The celebratory Gatorade bath is one of the best traditions in sports, as synonymous with winning as the victory formation and champagne shower.
It’s also the focus of one of the most ridiculous and entertaining 2023 Super Bowl prop bets.
The color of the Gatorade bath hasn’t been a legally available prop in the U.S. for very long, but it’s already drawn plenty of attention ahead of this year’s matchup between the Eagles and Chiefs in Super Bowl 57. And each NFL team’s recent history with the storied sports drink should give us some strong insights into betting on this exotic Super Bowl prop.
Here’s a look at the odds for this year’s Gatorade color, courtesy of BetMGM, along with everything you need to know before betting this prop ahead of the 2023 Super Bowl:

Super Bowl Gatorade bath history
The Gatorade bath for the winning coach in the Super Bowl has a “colorful” history dating back to 2001, the first year of available data for this unique novelty prop.
Orange is the most common color for the post-title Gatorade bath, dousing five coaches over the last 13 years alone. That includes Chiefs coach Andy Reid, who was ambushed with a bucket of orange Gatorade in the final minute of his team’s Super Bowl victory in 2020.
Surprisingly, that was the only time over the last four years that the celebratory bath wasn’t blue – which happens to be the most common Gatorade flavor in America. That hadn’t translated to high usage of blue Gatorade in previous Super Bowls, with just one team (2015 Patriots) showering their coach in cool blue in the nearly two decades before 2019.
We’ve seen yellow/green (a.k.a. “lemon-lime”) just three times in the last 22 years, but it’s easy to understand why it’s the favorite this year. The last time we saw the citrus-flavored drink in action was in 2018 when then-Philly coach Doug Pederson enjoyed a bath of yellow/green Gatorade after his team won its first-ever title.
His replacement, Nick Sirianni, was also drenched in yellow/green after his Eagles beat the 49ers two weeks ago in the NFC Championship. Could that be a precursor for what we’ll see on Sunday?

After opening as high as 4/1 at some shops, yellow/green has emerged as the clear consensus favorite across the entire betting market with +175 odds at BetMGM ahead of kickoff. And you could argue it’s still a steal at that price.
One thing to remember: this isn’t just about a color for the players. This is all about flavor. If the Eagles and Chiefs have opted for one flavor of Gatorade in other key postseason spots, I don’t see why they’d reverse course now in the biggest game of their lives.

If you like Kansas City to win, there’s real value on orange, which was once the prohibitive favorite in this market but is now conservatively priced at +325. Personally, I’m all over yellow/green, which feels like a cheap way to bet on the favored Eagles (-125) at a plus-money price.
Of course, you should always bet responsibly when it comes to wagering on any novelty props, which are inherently volatile and require a much higher risk tolerance than your everyday player props.
2023 Super Bowl Gatorade color prediction
With that said, yellow feels like the obvious play here, along with a small sprinkle on “no Gatorade” (+1400) in case the winning side flubs America’s favorite postgame celebration.
