Monday’s battle between Alabama and Maryland for a spot in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 features a pair of teams playing at opposite speeds, with Alabama ranking 13th in the country in possessions per game and Maryland averaging the 12th-fewest possessions per game.
The Crimson Tide rely upon outside shooting to get their offense going, as 46.6 percent of their field-goal attempts come from 3-point range and 39.7 percent of their points come from those shots. Both rank in the top 20 among Division I teams.
Maryland has had a tough time defending the 3-point arc, ranking 197th in opponent 3-point shooting percentage. The Terrapins rank 132nd in points allowed on a per-possession basis.
There should be plenty of clean possessions in this game as Maryland ranks 281st in the country in turnovers forced on a per-possession basis. The Terrapins commit only 11 turnovers per game, which is 32nd-best in the nation.

Combine that with Maryland getting ball movement from a variety of sources with three of its top four scorers averaging at least two assists per game, there should be no shortage of scoring.
The play: Alabama-Maryland total, Over 137.5.
