The college basketball regular season concludes this weekend for major conferences.

Often that involves main rivalries but also can feature teams on the bubble or teams incentivized to improve their seeding for conference tourneys.

Given the circumstances, it sure looks as if Missouri has an extremely favorable situation. The Tigers, a 1.5-point favorite, host Arkansas with a total of 160.5 points.

The most important factor is that Razorbacks star freshman point guard Darius Acuff is expected to miss the game with a nagging ankle injury.

Most teams perform better at home, and Mizzou is 15-2 there compared to just 5-6 on the road. It also is 5-3 against the spread in conference home games. That includes outright wins over Florida, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

The Hogs also have unfavorable splits on the road, which bodes well for the Tigers.

In their previous meeting that Arkansas won in Fayetteville, Acuff finished with 20 points, five assists and four rebounds. He also orchestrated the offense without a single turnover.

John Calipari’s teams can always pull out a tough win, especially when they push pace and shoot a lot of 3-pointers. However, the vibe strikes me as a throwaway game in which he’s unlikely to spend much time preparing his team to play without Acuff.

The Hogs have bigger goals next week with the SEC tournament when Acuff is expected to return.
