The Jimmy V Classic features a battle of top-five teams on Wednesday when No. 5 Illinois and No. 2 Baylor hook up in Indianapolis.
Both teams enter this matchup among the top five in college basketball in scoring points on a per-possession basis, with both shooting at least 46.9 percent from 3-point range and having scored at least 77 points in their combined five games.
Illinois also is ranked first and Baylor second in the nation in rebound rate, with each having three players averaging at least 6.5 rebounds per game.
With the teams being equal and dominant in many regards, it might be an addition of someone who will not take a shot or grab a rebound that might be the difference. Baylor has outscored teams by an average of 32 points per game despite the absence of coach Scott Drew, who had tested positive for COVID-19. Drew is rejoining the team for this game after contributing via Zoom calls.
With Drew back on the sidelines for a Baylor team loaded with both experience and talent, it should be the difference in a contest against an Illinois team which most recently won a big-time battle with the Ohio Bobcats of the MAC by only two points.
The play: Baylor, -5.
