Cleveland should have success rushing against the Panthers’ defensive front, but expect backup QB Jacoby Brissett to struggle to keep pace with a revamped Carolina offense helmed by a vengeful Baker Mayfield. The Browns have gone winless in season openers since 2004, and it is unlikely that they will buck that trend in 2022.

Carolina has a fully fit Christian McCaffrey, and a fiesty young defence. Given the Panthers are at home, I’m happy to roll with the boys in blue.

As the fastest venue on the F1 calendar with several long straights, Monza will favour cars with a higher top-speed and low drag. All teams will bring special low-downforce configuration rear wings to the Italian venue, although corner stability is also important thanks to the presence of several chicanes.

Given the emphasis on top speed, Red Bull is the favourite for a fifth straight victory of 2022 going to Monza, especially having proven so strong at Spa a fortnight ago. However, Ferrari will be trying very hard to put on a strong show in front of its home fans and make amends for some of its errors in recent races.

Though it’s hard to bet against Max Verstappen at this stage consider this: his best career finish at Monza is 5th, and he’s had two DNFs in a row. Last year it was the aforementioned crash with Hamilton, and in 2020 an engine failure ended his Sunday early. Monza is typically tough for Max, and though you can’t lean too hard on history, you can’t ignore it either.

The last rou4 Italian GP’s have been won by four different drivers, and four different teams. I’m not going for a fifth here, but I’m going for a man who has won here before. Charles Leclerc was put under immense pressure by two Mercedes in 2019, and he coped brilliantly. As a romantic, I’ll take a Ferrari win in Monza, with Leclerc the man to do the business.
