Buffalo Bills (+3) over TENNESEE TITANS: I’m counting on Buffalo QB Josh Allen continuing to progress through concussion protocol and be able to start Sunday, but I’m betting on the Bills — even if we have to count on Matt Barkley (though I’m sure we’ll get a few extra points from the current line of +3 if he’s declared the Bills’ starter). That’s how impressed I was with the Bills’ defense — which is ranked No. 2 in the NFL behind the Patriots, after holding Tom Brady’s offense to just 224 yards and nine points last Sunday. The Titans’ defense (No. 14 in yards allowed per game but No. 4 in scoring defense at 15.5 ppg) has been stellar, too, so this should be a close, relatively low-scoring game. In the end, I give Allen (or even Barkley) a better chance for success against the Tennessee “D” than Marcus Mariota against this Buffalo unit.
Jacksonville Jaguars (+3½) over CAROLINA PANTHERS: I was worried about my best bet on the Jaguars last week when they fell behind the Broncos 17-3, but then the Sacksonville defense took over and Gardner Minshew did just enough (including some nifty footwork) along with Leonard Fournette to pull out the 26-24 upset at Denver. Carolina QB Kyle Allen is gaining some support in place of Cam Newton, but I’m not as sold on him and feel he’ll have a tougher time with the Jaguars than he did against the Cardinals and Texans (besides, he led the Panthers to just 16 points at Houston, so it’s not as if he’s lit up the scoreboard except against the lowly Cardinals).
Last week: 2-0.
Season: 4-4.
