The NHL is back, and with it is our obsession with 1st Period Over/Unders.

Hopefully you were among the readers who jumped on the gravy train last winter and spring when I wrote about this in The Post. To summarize, this wager entails picking whether there will be Over or Under 1.5 goals in the first 20 minutes of play. We identified the most consistent 1P Over teams last season (ChicagoBlackhawks, Tampa Bay Lightning, Columbus Blue Jackets, San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins), plus the Dallas Stars as the best 1P Under team, and dubbed them the #FollowtheMoney6 after VSiN’s “Follow the Money” program. The Devils later were added to the list of teams hitting well over 60 percent of these bets, and I used my parlaying earned 60 units of profit through the end of the regular season.

My favorite team from last season, the Blackhawks (who hit 1P Overs at 72 percent), open their season Friday afternoon in Philadelphia. I expect them to show the same style (aggressive attacking offense while not getting back to help on defense) that fits perfectly with this wager. We don’t see the odds for 1P Over/Unders until the morning of gameday, but I’m estimating this will be at least -160.

The play: Blackhawks-Flyers 1st Period Over 1.5 (if looking for just a straight play) or parlayed with Vegas Golden Knights-San Jose Sharks 1st Period Over 1.5.
