The Cincinnati Reds had possession of an NL wild-card berth entering Wednesday, but they would love to avoid that game and will look to make up ground on the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday afternoon.

Reds starter Sonny Gray has allowed just one home run in his past five starts and has kept teams in the yard in eight of his past 10 outings. He has given up three road home runs all season, with a 3.38 road ERA compared to a 4.75 home ERA.

The Brewers’ Brett Anderson has allowed three runs or fewer in five straight home starts, though Milwaukee is just 1-4 in his past five outings at home and 3-7 in his past 10 starts overall.

The Reds’ offense has not produced the same on the road as it has in Cincinnati, registering 4.55 runs per game on the road compared to 5.52 at home. The Brewers average just 4.35 runs per game at home compared to 5.03 runs per game away.

The Brewers entered Wednesday having allowed four runs or fewer in 11 of their past 14 games, and just one of Anderson’s past 10 starts has gone over the total, so a low-scoring affair in Milwaukee is on tap for Thursday.

The Play: Reds-Brewers total, Under 9 runs.
