St. Louis Cardinals starter Jack Flaherty has found success early in his career against most teams. But the Milwaukee Brewers have had his number, and he will be facing them on Thursday.

The Brewers are the only National League team Flaherty has faced multiple times against whom he has a lifetime ERA above 4.32. He is 2-6 with a 5.72 ERA with 2.1 home runs and 3.2 walks per nine innings given up.

Flaherty will be tasked with outdueling Brewers ace Corbin Burnes, who in 29 ¹/₃ innings across five starts has a 1.53 ERA and has an active streak of most strikeouts to begin a season before issuing a walk with 49.

Both teams entered Wednesday’s game with identical 3.88 bullpen ERAs and struggling at the plate with the Brewers hitting .218 at home and the Cardinals .224 on the road.

With Burnes averaging 14.7 strikeouts per nine innings for his career against the Cardinals and surrendering just 4.9 hits per nine innings this season, the Brewers should defend their home field against a division rival.

The play: Brewers, -125.
