Some players who were moved at the trade deadline are having more success than others. The Reds’ Trevor Bauer is one of the guys who has yet to find his rhythm.

In five starts with the Reds, Bauer is 1-3 with a 7.62 ERA, though his fielding independent is 4.25, which indicates he has pitched better than the raw numbers show.

Even if that positive regression comes in, the Reds’ bullpen has not been performing well. Cincinnati entered Thursday ranked 23rd in bullpen ERA since the All-Star break while St. Louis’ pen had the best ERA in that time.

Dakota Hudson is the opposite of Bauer, his fielding independent is 5.05, but he’s been terrific at getting ground balls, leading to a 13-6 record with a 3.47 ERA. The team is 15-3 in his last 18 starts as Hudson has yielded more than three earned runs just once since April 15.

The Cardinals have a 16-9 record this month and are beginning to separate in the NL Central. The Reds entered Thursday with a 26-38 road record. Both scenarios figure to continue on Friday.

The play: Cardinals, -110.
