Chiefs (+3¹/₂) over CHARGERS: The perennial also-ran Chargers are now the AFC West favorites, but I’m not sure Philip Rivers and his teammates will be able to handle the role of front-runner either in the division or individual games where they’re going to be favored more often. To be the champ, you have to beat the champ, and the Chargers have lost eight straight to the two-time defending division champion Chiefs.
I’m not the biggest Patrick Mahomes fan, but I’ll still take the Chiefs (and coach Andy Reid over Anthony Lynn) with the bonus points.
Bears (+8) at PACKERS: The return of Aaron Rodgers obviously upgrades the Packers, but the Bears’ offense has the potential to be just as good if Mitchell Trubisky continues to improve. He has more weapons this year with wide receivers Allen Robinson and Anthony Miller joining running backs Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen. And though the Bears aren’t quite the Monsters of the Midway, the defense was expected to be solid and now adds Khalil Mack. Rodgers will have happy feet and his head on a swivel.
