They may have needed a thrilling comeback and penalty kicks to beat Canada, but the United States Men’s National Team is now one win away from a trip to the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup Final, and according to the oddsmakers it should not have too many issues in its semifinal against Panama.

At the time of writing, the Yanks are -375 favorites at BetMGM to advance past Panama and are -165 to get the job done in regulation.

Those prices seem a bit rich.

While the USMNT hasn’t lost a match in the Gold Cup yet, its only two wins inside 90 minutes came against Saint Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago.

The Stars & Stripes were held to a draw in the tournament-opener against Jamaica and needed 120 minutes and a shootout to get by Canada. 

At full strength the USA is the class of CONCACAF, but the Americans opted to give their star players a reprieve from playing in the Gold Cup due to a busy 2022-23 campaign.

That has left the Yanks with a “B-team” full of MLS players and up-and-comers getting their first crack at international duty. 

The results have been fine, but the Americans have shown that they are struggling to get any separation against the stronger teams in the competition. 

Bookmakers have put a bit of a hometown tax on the USMNT throughout this entire tournament and that remains the case for the semifinal against Panama.

Los Canaleros are a dangerous underdog on Wednesday night.
