The calendar says August, but Monday night’s pitching matchup in Boston certainly feels like October.
Rick Porcello (15-5, 4.04 ERA) goes for the red-hot Red Sox against Corey Kluber (15-6, 2.68 ERA) and the white-hot Indians. Neither pitcher has faced the other team this season.
But both pitchers have been on a roll lately, Kluber winning his past three starts as well as seven of his past 10. In his past 23 innings, he has given up only five earned runs. On the other side, Porcello has won six of his past eight starts, but he’s actually been better on the road. He’s 6-3 with a 4.57 ERA at home and 9-2, with a 3.59 ERA on the road.
I think Kluber is going to be really up for this game, he’s got something to prove. He hasn’t pitched well in the postseason and this is going to seem like a postseason game. I also feel that pitching-wise, Kluber is in a better place than Porcello right now. Both offenses hit well, but I like the Indians bullpen better.
The play: While most signs might point to the Red Sox at home, I’m going the other way with Kluber and the Indians.
