The Chicago Cubs have been a vastly different team at Wrigley Field compared to on the road this season, and their starting pitcher for Monday, Kyle Hendricks, has been terrific at home.
He is 4-2 with a 1.89 ERA and has averaged just under seven innings per start in his nine home starts. Compare that to his 4-6 record in 11 starts away from Wrigley, in which he averages closer to 5 ¹/₃ innings per start.
The Oakland A’s are flying in from the West Coast on no rest to take on the Cubs and will be sending Chris Bassitt to the hill. He has had his issues giving up home runs on the road, letting up just under 1.9 of them per nine innings. He is also not giving ideal length, making it six full innings in one of his past seven road starts.
Bassitt is backed up by a bullpen that is league average in terms of ERA since the All-Star break, while that of the Cubs is in the top 10 in that time. The A’s also rank 27th in team batting average against right-handed pitching while the Cubs are 12th. With both starters being righties, this gives Chicago another leg up. And entering Sunday, the Cubs were 38-18 at home compared to 21-33 away.
