The Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs entered the week as the bottom two teams in the National League in batting average and will look to get some offers generated on Monday when they face each other.

In a start and a long-relief appearance this season, Brewers starter Freddy Peralta has been lights out, not giving up a single run and striking out 14 batters in seven innings. While this is all good, he has also issued seven walks and has a lifetime 5.22 ERA and is giving up 1.3 home runs per nine innings as compared to a 3.50 ERA and 0.9 home runs surrendered per nine innings as a reliever.

Cubs starter Adbert Alzolay had a rough first start this season against this same Brewers team six days earlier, giving up four runs in five innings in what turned out to be a 4-0 loss.

Both teams are striking out on nearly 29 percent of their plate appearances, the worst mark in the NL, and the Cubs bullpen leads the league in strikeouts per nine innings with 13.3 to go with a 2.37 ERA while the Brewers bullpen has a 4.74 ERA.

Though Peralta’s start to the season is promising, facing a Cubs lineup that ranks sixth in the league in percentage of plate appearances ending in a walk puts Peralta in danger of a short start and giving up more runs than a struggling Brewers lineup can manufacture.
