Game 2 of the World Series on Wednesday will feature 2018 Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell trying to shut down the majors’ top offense in 2020.
Snell has seen a rise in his walks this postseason, going 19 ²/₃ innings in his four starts for the Tampa Bay Rays, with 10 walks in total and at least two in every start to go with a 3.20 postseason ERA.
That could prove to be costly against a Los Angeles Dodgers lineup that led the National League in walks per game to go along with the most runs and home runs in MLB. The team also has been consistent, as the Dodgers entered the World Series having scored at least three runs in 22 of their past 24 games.
Snell also has been taken deep four times this postseason, and between the regular season and postseason, he has allowed an average of 1.8 home runs per nine innings.
The Dodgers’ bullpen entered Game 1 having given up four runs in its past 18 innings and will be facing the only lineup in the majors that averaged more than 10 strikeouts per game during the regular season.
With the Rays’ bullpen being used for a total of 29 ²/₃ innings in the ALCS against the Houston Astros with a 3.64 ERA, and with Snell not having gone a full six innings this season, it should lead to the Dodgers generating enough offense to take Game 2.
The play: Dodgers to win Game 2, -143.
