Georgia Tech and Notre Dame split their regular-season series and will meet for a third time to settle the score Thursday. While Notre Dame turns the ball over at the seventh-lowest rate in the country on a per-possession rate, the Yellow Jackets defense should have a leg up in this contest.
Georgia Tech’s offensive efficiency and defensive efficiency splits are one of the most drastic in the country.
On offense, Georgia Tech is 325th, but it clocks in at 35th on defense. With both teams entering this game between 270th and 280th in the country in defensive rebounding percentage Georgia Tech’s 43.8 field-goal-shooting percentage to Notre Dame’s 39.5 figures to loom large.
The Yellow Jackets also block 9 percent of opponents’ shots, which ranks sixth among all Division I teams. With Notre Dame ranking 323rd in 2-point field goal shooting percentage for the season, it will make it an uphill battle for the Fighting Irish to put points on the board.
Another woe for Notre Dame is bench production. In the two meetings, Georgia Tech totaled 36 points from reserves to Notre Dame’s 12.
Though Georgia Tech’s 14-17 straight-up record may not indicate it, this has been a solid “bet on” team at 19-12 against the spread while Notre Dame is just 12-19 against the spread.
The play: Georgia Tech, +1 ¹/₂.
