ARIZONA STATE (+6) over Michigan State: It will be a hot night in the desert, and the Spartans are probably in for another sweat. Arizona State has a dynamic quarterback in Manny Wilkins, who passed for four touchdowns in a 49-7 blowout of Texas-San Antonio. Herm Edwards’ defense was impressive as the Sun Devils outgained the Roadrunners 503-220. Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio is 1-8 against the spread as a road favorite since 2015. The Devils are live ’dogs, especially if the Big Ten team tires in the heat.
STANFORD (-5) over Southern California: JT Daniels, the Trojans’ true freshman quarterback, does not look like another Sam Darnold. USC needed a fourth-quarter rally to put away UNLV, and the Trojans allowed the Rebels to rush for 308 yards. Five factors favor the Cardinal. Home-field advantage, revenge and the better quarterback (K.J. Costello), running back (Bryce Love) and wide receiver (JJ Arcega-Whiteside) are on Stanford’s side. Love should run wild. USC coach Clay Helton is 4-11 against the spread since the beginning of last season.
Last week: 1-1.
