In 2019, the Giants selected Daniel Jones to be the heir apparent to Eli Manning. However, since his arrival, the Giants have yet to finish with a record above .500. Moreover, New York hasn’t had a winning record in five consecutive years and eight of the past nine seasons.

Things didn’t look all that gloomy for the Giants, considering that Jones threw 24 touchdowns and passed for 3,027 yards in his rookie year. And while the Giants finished just 4-12, there was a level of optimism heading into the next season.

Unfortunately, injuries and poor decision-making by the Giants’ front office appear to have stunted Jones’s development.

In April, the Giants opted not to pick up the fifth-year option on Jones’s rookie contract. And with the former Duke product possibly auditioning for a new team, he’ll need a decent campaign to prove he’s still worthy of being a starting quarterback in the NFL.

That motivation could provide valuable insight into how to play Jones’s season-long player props.

3449.5 Passing Yards (-112) (FanDuel): Lean Over

It’s not easy to make projections for Jones because he hasn’t been able to stay healthy in the past two seasons. In 2020, Jones played in 14 games and only 11 in 2021.

If you look at Jones’s passing yards in his three years and project them over a 17-game season, he’d clear 3450 yards in each instance.

The million-dollar question, of course, is whether he can avoid missing any game time due to injuries.

If healthy, I think Jones has a decent chance to go over his projection. However, I’m not sold on that just yet, given what we’ve seen over the past two seasons.

As a result, I won’t commit to anything more than a lean in this spot.

Over 374.5 Rushing Yards (-112) (FanDuel) – 1 unit

Jones’ rushing yards are an exciting proposition because, under a 17-game schedule, he’d have gone over his projected number of 374.5 yards in two of his three seasons in the league. Moreover, in 2020, when Jones played in 14 games, he rushed for 423 yards while playing in 14 games.

I think there’s more of an upside to Jones going over his rushing yards prop than his passing yards. I also don’t expect the Giants to deviate from using him in the running game.

After all, new head coach Brian Daboll oversaw a Bills offense with Josh Allen rushing for at least 400 yards in his four seasons in Buffalo.

With the Giants no longer financially committed to Jones beyond this season, I don’t think the preservation of their quarterback will be at the forefront of their minds.

Jones is also more likely to be fully committed to putting his body on the line in search of a new contract.

As a result, I’d recommend looking to the over in his rushing prop.
