The Open Championship offers an extensive wagering menu beyond the winner and matchups. Here are some players I’m picking to finish in the top 20. Odds via William Hill (WH) and PointsBet (PB).
The Plays
Xander Schauffele (+120, WH): Has finished in the top 10 in four of the last six majors and top 20 in five of the last six. Was second at Carnoustie last year in only his second Open appearance.
Hideki Matsuyama (+162, PB): Has 11 top 20s in 18 events this season. His usual shaky putting may not be as much of a hindrance this week.
Bryson DeChambeau (+170, WH): The 2019 calendar year has been a bit of a struggle for him, but he comes in with his best two results of the year.
Erik van Rooyen (+350, PB): Was on the first page of the leaderboard over the weekend last year at Carnoustie before finishing 17th in his first Open.
Jim Furyk (+500, PB): At 49, still playing good golf with three top 10s this season. As always, he hits it straight.
Zander Lombard (+1400, PB): The 24-year-old South African was runner-up in the 2014 Amateur at Royal Portrush.
