It’s a Winter Wonderland at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota.
Christmas Day football is on tap as the Detroit Lions head to the the division rival Minnesota Vikings on Thursday for some midday action.
The Lions come in as 7.5-point road favorites as the Vikings are without their quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, and will go with Max Brosmer in his stead.
The line moved from 2.5 to 7.5 with the injury news.
The Vikings looked less than stellar in their tight 16-13 win over the Giants last week despite facing an inept offense that tallied just 33 passing yards.
Detroit, which is far from being the symbol of health at this point in the season, is coming off a crushing loss to Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
My model projects a score of 26.57 to 16.59 in favor of the Lions if both teams were at full health.
The issue with this game is injuries, as the Lions are without multiple starters.
Safety Kerby Joseph, tackles Giovanni Manu and Graham Glasgow, cornerback Terrion Arnold and some other ancillary pieces won’t play Thursday.
Jahmyr Gibbs could have a banner day on Christmas Day Getty ImagesDetroit is a shell of itself right now, and the team’s depth will really be tested on a short week.
My model still has the Lions as 10-point favorites here, which raises the question of how many points the move from McCarthy to Brosmer is worth.
Brosmer played alright against a terrible Giants defense last week, going 7of 9 for 52 yards, but his first-ever start was an utter disaster, throwing four interceptions and being shutout by the Seahawks.
Even against a beat-up Lions team, I think Brosmer is closer to that than anything else.

Earlier in the year. McCarthy went 14 of 25 for 143 yards and two touchdowns in an upset win in Detroit. Don’t expect that kind of magic from Brosmer at home on this festive holiday.
I suspect the favorites roll on Christmas, and that includes the Lions, who should be able to run the ball down the Vikings’ throats.
Minnesota’s defense ranks sixth in terms of DVOA, but its offense is 29th and could get worse Thursday with Brosmer under center.
The Lions still have something to play for, and I’ll take them to come out victorious Thursday with -7.5 a fine wager.
For those looking for some action on a player prop, I look toward Minnesota’s No. 3 receiver Jalen Nailor.
The Vikings should be behind in this game and forced to throw, giving Nailor an opportunity to put up some numbers.
Nailor didn’t get much action outdoors at MetLife Stadium last week, but in a dome with an expected negative game script, it should be enough to clear his reception total, which comes in at 1.5 (-144).
I project Nailor to get two catches in this game, so feel free to target the Over for Nailor and don’t be afraid to lay Over 2.5 receptions at +210 odds at FanDuel.
Nailor has cleared three catches in two of his last three games and he had four targets the last time these two teams battled.
THE PLAY: Lions -7.5 (-110, Fanatics Sportsbook) | Jalen Nailor over 2.5 receptions (+210, FanDuel)
