March Madness is the place for the little guy, the sleeper team to make a big run from obscurity to stardom. Tales of the little guy have been around for generations. Whether it is Thomas the Tank’s hit song, The Little Engine That Could, or the real-life 1982 United States Olympic hockey team, our culture has an infatuation with the Cinderella Story.
And if there was ever a place for it in sports, it is right here at March Madness 2022. Every year, there are tons of sleeper teams looking to make a name for themselves, from 15-seed Florida Gulf Coast making it to the Sweet Sixteen in 2013 to just last year, when Oral Roberts (also a 15-seed) defeated Ohio State and Florida.
Here are some of the best upset picks and sleeper teams for the 2022 March Madness Tournament. The fun all begins on Tuesday with the First Four games, followed by the actual tournament opener on Thursday.
2022 March Madness upsets: Week one

No. 12 New Mexico St. (+240) vs. No. 5 UConn
UConn typically showcases very well in the NCAA tournament. However, the Aggies are a very physical team Connecticut has a tough time finishing games. These will be tough ones and everyone loves the 12/5 upset.
No. 11 Virginia Tech (+100) vs. No. 6 Texas
The shocking ACC tournament winners, the Hokies will take on the Texas Longhorns. Now, this 11/6 matchup is only priced at +100/-120. so the upset isn’t as pronounced. Still, back the Hokies in this one, who could be this year’s Oregon State.

Indiana Hoosiers to make the Sweet Sixteen (+520)
Indiana would need to win the play-in game against Wyoming and then beat Saint Mary’s and either UCLA or Akron. Overall, Indiana was the runner-up in the Big Ten tournament after beating No. 1 ranked Illinois.
Baylor to not make the Sweet Sixteen (+250)
The weakest of all of the one seeds, Baylor isn’t a team that is particularly easy to believe in. Whether it is Marquette or North Carolina in round two, Baylor is going to be on upset alert.
