MICHIGAN STATE (+7) over Michigan: The Wolverines struggled in their only two road games, digging a 14-0 first-quarter deficit in a loss at Notre Dame and digging out of a 17-0 second-quarter deficit in a narrow win at Northwestern. Michigan was a 10½-point favorite in a 14-10 home loss to Michigan State last year. Under coach Mark Dantonio, the Spartans tend to be flaky favorites and dangerous underdogs. Dantonio, 3-1 straight up and against the spread as a ’dog since the win last year at Ann Arbor, pulled off another stunner last week by taking down Penn State, 21-17, as a two-touchdown road underdog. Michigan State ranks No. 1 in run defense. A home ’dog with a tough run defense and a veteran quarterback is a good combination, especially in a rivalry game.

WASHINGTON STATE (-3) over Oregon: Mike Leach is working more coaching magic. The Cougars (5-1 straight up, 6-0 ATS) are a major surprise, and Gardner Minshew, who leads the nation with 2,422 passing yards and has 19 touchdowns, is the main reason. Washington State also ranks 14th in total defense. The Ducks might be due for an emotional hangover after upsetting Washington.

Last week: 1-1
Season: 9-5
