Saturday’s main event of the ESPN+ early prelims of UFC Fight Night 143 at Barclays Center features New York native Dennis Bermudez, who hails from upstate Saugerties and trains at Long Island MMA.

Bermudez, who has dropped his last four fights in a row at featherweight (145 pounds), now moves up to lightweight (155 pounds) for a matchup against a fighter with less UFC experience, but that is where Bermudez’s advantages end.

Te Edwards is younger, taller, longer and more athletic than is the veteran Bermudez. Edwards holds wrestling/striking advantages over Bermudez, who is somewhat undersized for the featherweight division, let alone at lightweight.

This is a poor spot for Bermudez. Even though he fights in front of the locals, Bermudez will find that moving up to the lightweight division of the UFC is no walk in Prospect Park.

The play: Te Edwards, -130 at William Hill.
