The No. 22-ranked Murray State Racers are a virtual lock to make the NCAA tournament regardless of how this week goes. They went undefeated in the conference on their way to a fourth regular-season title in the past five years and are considered good enough to make the program’s first Sweet 16.

Murray State is tied for the longest winning streak in the country. Remarkably, at 28-2 the Racers have the most wins nationally. Ja Morant’s alma mater is the first OVC team to enter the AP Top 25 since 2015.

Belmont and Morehead State rather fortunately find themselves on the other side of the bracket, and are the two main contenders to stop Murray State. The Racers swept Belmont by 22 and 33 points respectively in the regular season, while Morehead State lost by 15 total points.

There is a glimmer of hope in the remaining pile of teams, as Southeast Missouri State ran Murray State close in the regular season final. The Racers’ blushes were spared as they snuck away with a 70-68 victory, but these two teams could meet again in the semi-finals.

The Tournament has been historically dominated by Murray State and Belmont. The Racers and Bruins have won six of the past 10 tournaments, including two of the past four. 

Since the tournament began in 1949, the Racers have won 17 titles. Belmont has won three titles since joining the conference from the Atlantic Sun in the 2012-2013 season.

The 2022 edition of the OVC tournament takes place at the Ford Center, for the fifth consecutive year.
