Some NBA games are worth betting because of the matchup. Others are worth betting because of recent results. Wednesday’s game between the Pelicans and Spurs offers the best of both worlds for those willing to lay the points on the road.
New Orleans has been on a tear as of late, even with superstar Zion Williamson missing three of the team’s last four games. No matter, the Pelicans have won four of their last five with all four victories decided by double digits, including Monday’s stunning 45-point win over the defending-champion Warriors in the biggest blowout by any team this season.

It’s been the exact opposite story for the Spurs, who can’t seem to get anything going in a season that’s been marred by off-court drama and on-court stumbles. Since the start of November, San Antonio has lost 10 of 11 games (4-7 against the spread) with six of those 10 losses coming by double digits. That includes three straight losses by 18-plus after Sunday’s 31-point drubbing at the hands of the struggling Lakers.

All of that alone is enough to back the road chalk here. That’s before considering the matchup itself: The Spurs are among the worst rebounding teams in the league and are allowing an NBA-worst 50.6% shooting to opposing teams. In comparison, the Pelicans have been aggressive on the boards and are scoring 46.8% of their points in the paint. This one could get ugly.
