Expect vanilla offensive game plans and two coaches who want to show absolutely nothing to the opponent. The Raiders and Rams meet Saturday in Los Angeles, and it’s a preseason game Jon Gruden and Sean McVay would prefer not play because the teams will open the regular season on Sept. 10 on “Monday Night Football.” That will be a high-stakes game in Oakland. This one means nothing, so there should be many handoffs and punts.
McVay held out most of the Rams’ starters in last week’s 33-7 loss at Baltimore and has indicated he probably will take a similar approach in Week 2. The Raiders opened the preseason with a sloppy 16-10 victory over Detroit, and there’s no reason for Gruden to play to win this one.
The play: Raiders-Rams Under 39¹/₂.
