Chalk has held to form in the bottom half of the NCAA Tournament’s South Region as Purdue and Tennessee will battle it out in the Sweet 16 on Thursday (7:29 p.m., TBS).

Purdue has the top scorer on the court in Carsen Edwards, who will perhaps make the biggest impact one way or another as he takes the most shots per game of any player in the tournament with 19.3. With those shots, he attempts 10.2 3-pointers per game and converts 34.6 percent of them.

Tennessee has a bit more balance as five guys on the Volunteers pour in over 10 points per game and rank in the top 20 in both free-throw shooting and 2-point shooting percentage. Despite the variance in the way scoring is distributed, the vols are seventh in offensive efficiency in the country while the Boilermakers are ninth.

With Purdue getting 39 percent of its points from 3s on offense, the second-highest mark of any team left in March Madness, and Tennessee getting just 25.7 percent of its points from downtown, it turns this game into a question of which team can find its offensive flow better.

Tennessee ranks 204th in the country in opponent 3-point shooting percentage, but teams that take so many 3s also get to the free-throw line less frequently. With the Volunteers’ good free-throw shooting numbers and Grant Williams attempting the most free throws per game of any player left in the tournament at 7.1 per, it gives Tennessee the upper hand.
