The Texas Rangers had allowed four runs or fewer in nine of their past 14 games entering Thursday night, and have one of their more trustworthy starters going in Lance Lynn against the Oakland A’s. He is 7-4 with a 4.50 ERA and has yielded just one home run in his last seven starts. He has a 3.30 ERA in those seven starts with 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings.
Brett Anderson, the Oakland A’s starter, has found a way to hold down opponents despite amassing just 4.6 strikeouts per nine innings. In eight of his 12 starts this season, he has not surrendered a home run, and he has given up two runs or fewer in seven of his last 11 starts.
The Rangers had seen 17 of their first 31 home games stay Under, including five of the last six entering Thursday. With the both bullpens showing signs of improvement, particularly the A’s who are no longer carrying Fernando Rodney, this should be a game in which runs are a bit harder to come by than they typically are in Arlington.
The Play: Rangers-A’s Under 10¹/₂ runs.
