Despite how dominant the Baltimore Ravens have appeared lately, they face a stern challenge Monday night on the road against the Los Angeles Rams, who match up quite well against them.
The Ravens are explosive on offense, but on defense they’ve been ineffective against the run and unable to pressure opposing quarterbacks. Pro Football Focus lists the Ravens defense as 31st in effective pass rush and 23rd in sack rate this year.
Against the Rams, there are advantages to play them away from Los Angeles, aggressively attack their offensive line, which has been shuffled throughout the year, and to pressure quarterback Jared Goff. Thwarting Goff’s comfort and timing in the pocket affects his confidence and the Rams’ reliance on rhythm and timing to be effective on offense.
The Ravens have none of those aforementioned advantages Monday night. On the road with a defense that has struggled to press opposing quarterbacks is a poor recipe for success against a Rams offense that is predicated on power running and play action pass.
The Rams seem poised to offer a top effort at home against a Ravens team that may not match up well defensively with their offense. Patience will also pay as Rams +3 ¹/₂ seem a certainty and Rams +4 not an impossibility.
The play: Rams +3
