The Red Sox entered into this weekend’s series against the Rays as the second-least profitable team in baseball, if a bettor put $100 on the money line of a team in every game.

The least profitable of the Red Sox starting pitchers has been Chris Sale, who has the challenge of going up against Tyler Glasnow. In five starts this season, Glasnow has a 1.53 ERA, and the Rays are 4-1 in those starts.

The Red Sox have lost all five of Chris Sale’s starts this year, with his fastball at the beginning of the season being about 3 mph slower than last season. That dip has led to Sale having a 7.43 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and giving up six home runs in 23 innings so far this season.

The Rays do not have a lineup that looks intimidating on paper but had played six of their most recent eight games prior to the series over the total, with a team batting average of .262 and 33 home runs through 25 games.

With the Red Sox bullpen entering the weekend 24th in the MLB, the Rays having the best team ERA in the league and Tampa Bay entering the series 7-2 in road games this season, it is clear the Red Sox being a big favorite in this spot is due to nothing but the brand name. This is a good opportunity to take a plus price on a team and pitcher that have come out of the gates strong against a pitcher and team duo that is resting on its 2018 laurels.

The play: Rays, +130.
