Rob Gronkowski is returning to football – as a kicker. Live at Super Bowl LVII.
In November, TMZ caught Gronkowski practicing field goals on the gridiron in Orlando. “Who said I’m retired?” the former Buccaneers and Patriots tight end exclaimed.
Well, that tease was actually Gronkowski practicing field goal kicks for a Super Bowl commercial he will be performing live for FanDuel.
As part of FanDuel Sportsbook’s “Kick of Destiny” Super Bowl campaign, any player on FanDuel who wagers on the Super Bowl in any capacity will qualify for a share of $10 million in free bets. But there is a catch – or should we say, a kicker.
Those free bets will only be released if Gronkowski can successfully hit a 25-yard field goal in front of the entire world during the third quarter of the Super Bowl.
“Gronk is taking this incredibly seriously,” FanDuel’s Executive Vice President of Marketing, Andrew Sneyd, told The Post on Friday. “He’s been practicing weekly for this with Adam Vinatieri, who has been training him.”
Sneyd continued, “When we told him the idea for the commercial, we said, ‘Rob, we are going to cut live [during the game], and someone is going to kick the field goal. And Rob, we want that person to be you.'”
Gronkowski’s response was, “But I catch, I don’t kick.”

According to NFL.com, kickers are 207/224 (92.4 percent) from between 20-29 yards this season entering Week 18.
“I sure hope he makes it,” Sneyd said.
At the time of writing, there is no plan for what happens if Gronkowski were to miss it.
“Gronkowski is an athletic beast,” Sneyd said. “We are confident he will hit it, but I’d be lying if I said I won’t be sweating leading up to the kick.”
Throughout the NFL playoffs, Gronkowski will be featured in a series of commercials, teasing his eventual super kick. The commercials will include a mock-media day, training sessions, and more, mimicking a normal Super Bowl build-up.
This is the first Super Bowl that will take place in a legal sports betting state, as it will be hosted in Arizona.
