After missing the whole 2020 season and a rough 2019 season in which he lost 10 straight starts, San Francisco Giants starter Aaron Sanchez will look to keep his bounce-back 2021 season going on Monday at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies.
Sanchez has cut down his walk rate to 3.3 per nine innings, which has been 4.7 or higher in each of his past three full seasons, to post a 2.22 ERA through five starts this season.
On the other side, German Marquez gets the ball for Colorado and will look to reverse his career splits of pitching worse at home than away from Coors Field. Marquez has a lifetime 20-15 record with a 4.96 ERA and opponents hitting .286 against him compared to his road record of 23-17 with a 3.59 ERA and opponents hitting .234.
In six games in San Francisco against the Rockies this season, the Giants generated at least four runs in five of them while the Rockies are third in the league in runs scored per game at home with 5.9.
With the Rockies owning the third-worst bullpen ERA and eight of their last nine games going over the total coupled with Sanchez failing to pitch beyond five innings in a start this season, runs should come easily in Colorado on Monday.
The Play: Rockies vs. Giants, Over 10 runs.
