Justin Thomas is the 5/1 favorite at William Hill sportsbooks to win this weekend’s PGA Tour stop at the Sony Open in Hawaii, a week after beating Patrick Reed and Xander Schauffele in a three-man playoff at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua. Reed is the co-second choice with Webb Simpson at 12/1. Here are some players who are worth a wager:
The plays
Collin Morikawa (18/1): The 22-year-old finished a solid seventh last week and has loads of family in both Maui and Oahu. Perhaps the homecoming distraction has subsided from last week in Maui and now he can focus more on golf.
Joaquin Niemann (30/1): Finished fifth at Kapalua. His ball-striking is one of the tops in this week’s field. Niemann won the Greenbrier last fall on the Old White TPC course which, like Waialae, is an original Seth Raynor design.
Kevin Kisner (45/1): Likes coastal courses with Bermuda greens and tends to thrive on shorter tracks like this one. He had back-to-back top-5s here in 2016 and 2017.
Brendon Todd (50/1): Disappointed some at Kapalua last week, but Todd has thrived of late on shorter, coastal course.
Sebastian Munoz (60/1): Finished 10th here in debut last season. He’s taken a liking to Bermuda greens, as evident by his win at the Sanderson Farms Championship last fall.
Tyler Duncan (100/1): A recent winner on another shorter, coastal course at the RSM Classic in November, Duncan looks a good fit here at a fairly big number.
