It’s rare for the Saints to win when Drew Brees does not pass for a touchdown, but that was the case in their 33-18 victory over the Giants. Alvin Kamara was the star, rushing for 134 yards and three touchdowns. Brees, who passed for 217 yards, will target the NFL career passing yardage record on Monday night in New Orleans.
The Saints’ worst performances so far were in the Superdome, where they were ambushed by the Buccaneers and barely survived an upset bid by the Browns. The Saints were favored by 10 against Tampa Bay and by 9¹/₂ against Cleveland, so this line shows respect for the Redskins, who have been off since Sept. 23.
Washington ranks No. 3 in total defense and has been strong against the run. The quarterbacks, Brees and Alex Smith, will get the headlines. Watch the running backs, however, as Adrian Peterson is off a 120-yard effort against Green Bay, and Mark Ingram returns from a suspension to help Kamara in the New Orleans backfield.
The play: Redskins +6¹/₂. They typically are best in the road ’dog role.
