The Northern Trust at Liberty National in Jersey City is the opener of the three-tournament FedEx Cup Playoffs, to be followed by the BMW Championship at Medinah outside Chicago and the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta. Here are some players worth a wager to win the tournament with the stunning views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty:
The plays:
Marc Leishman (60/1): Had top 5s in the past two months against highly competitive fields at The Memorial and WGC FedEx St. Jude. Leishman. He also won the BMW Championship in 2017 and played in the Presidents Cup at Liberty National that year. His 60/1 odds are way too high.
Patrick Cantlay (20/1), Webb Simpson (22/1), Tommy Fleetwood (25/1): All are tremendous ball-strikers who are in very good form. Simpson comes in off two straight second-place finishes. He is a good bet not only to win this week, but also to capture the whole thing. If putting is less important this week and ball-striking is the key, is there any better player to fit that mold than Fleetwood? He was runner-up in The Open Champjonship and fourth in the WGC FedEx St. Jude. And Cantlay’s game is too good for him to not be in the conversation this week.
