Though the White Sox will not be making a push for the playoffs in 2019, Saturday’s starter, Ivan Nova, arguably has been the most dominant pitcher in the American League the past 30-plus days.
The White Sox are 6-0 in Nova’s past six starts, and were sizable underdogs in four of those. The former Yankee has a 0.85 ERA in that stretch and has given up just 1.5 walks per nine innings.
He faces a Texas Rangers team that entered Friday with a 25-39 record on the road this season and is 25th in the majors in batting average since the All-Star break.
Injuries have taken a toll on the Rangers’ lineup and pitching, which has rushed prospect Kolby Allard, who has a 6.60 ERA and has walked eight batters in 15 innings.
With the Rangers backing up Allard with a bullpen that rates in the bottom 10 of the league in ERA, and the White Sox getting back slugger Yoan Moncada, a .300 hitter with 21 home runs this season, it gives Chicago a huge edge at home on Saturday.
The play: White Sox, -120.
