Matt Youmans co-hosts “The Edge,” weekdays 3-5 p.m. on VSiN.com, fuboTV and SiriusXM 204.
Texas (+8) over Oklahoma: Tom Herman is money when he’s getting points (11-1 against the spread with eight outright wins) as an underdog coaching at Texas and Houston. The Longhorns have the better defense, allowing 19.8 ppg, and a steady quarterback in Sam Ehlinger. Oklahoma has the offensive stars and big numbers, but also struggled in narrow wins over Army and Iowa State because the defense could not get off the field. These teams’ past four meetings in Dallas were decided by five, five, seven and five points, with the Sooners winning three times (each by five).
New Mexico (+9½) over UNLV: The Rebels have lost dual-threat quarterback Armani Rogers, their leading rusher (488 yards, six TDs in four games) for about six weeks because of a toe injury. Replacement Max Gilliam, a junior college transfer, is a better passer, but is untested. The Lobos, who scored 43 and 42 points in their past two games, should give the Rebels a run for their money.
Last week: 1-1
Season: 6-4.
