New York native Vinny Magliulo is a VSiN oddsmaker and the sportsbook director for Gaughan Gaming in Las Vegas. He attended St. Anthony’s High School (then in Smithtown), before moving to Vegas 40 years ago to pursue a career that included running the sportsbooks at Caesars Palace and Wynn Las Vegas. Catch Vinny with Brent Musburger on “My Guys in the Desert,” weekdays from 6 to 8 p.m. on VSiN.com, fubuTV and SiriusXM 204.

With March Madness behind us, the sports betting focus shifts to the NBA and NHL playoffs, baseball, the PGA Championship at Bethpage with Tiger Woods the 8/1 favorite off of his Masters triumph, the NFL draft. We also have posted odds for Week 1 of the NFL regular season and have begun working on pro and college football regular-season win totals, along with prices on college games of the year. The wagering menu continues to grow, as does the appetite of the betting public.

It’s great to be writing this from the Meadowlands, where sports betting leaders gathered from around the globe to share ideas and insights about this rapidly growing industry.

And now some of your questions. I am going to combine these first two for obvious reasons:

Vinny, the Mets are killing me, especially with their poor pitching! I bet a future ticket at 15/1 on them when I saw you in March. Are their odds higher now? — Kevin in Denver via Queens

Yo Vinny, the Yankees are a hospital in cleats! Have you raised their odds to win the World Series, and should I bail on my 4/1 ticket? — Pat in Rye

Vinny: Take heart, Kevin, Pat and all fans of the New York squads. It’s way too early to push the “release” button, as evidenced by recent improved results. Be patient. Injuries have played a role in these two teams’ starts. But the same can be said about several other championship contenders including the Cubs, Indians and Red Sox.

At the South Point Hotel and Casino, we can’t overreact, that is over-adjust the odds too high. As an example, the Dodgers had a poor start to last season, got to the All-Star Game in better shape, then had a terrific second half and won their second consecutive pennant. While they need to get healthy, the Mets and Yankees figure to have something to say about the playoff picture, especially if they take care of business within their divisions. So for now, the Mets are 12/1 while the Yankees remain 4/1. There’s time, rehab and deals!

I see the lines for Week 1 of the NFL season are up. Is it worth betting four months in advance? — Richard M. in Las Vegas

Vinny: If you believe there’s value in some of these early lines (ie. that there will be more than slight adjustments due to the draft, trades, etc.) then yes. The bets that have come in so far have been by more seasoned gamblers betting on or around key numbers such as three and seven. We provide these early lines to generate more business and publicity. It also gives patrons who will not be in Las Vegas during the first week of the season the opportunity to bet on them during an earlier visit.

When I listen to VSiN, I hear people talk about first-five-inning bets. Can you please explain? — Paul in New Haven, Conn.

Vinny: Glad you asked this Paul. With a “quality start” now consisting of basically going through an opponent’s lineup twice, starting pitchers obviously don’t go as far in games. Teams are relying more on their bullpens, with analytics playing a major role. The betting prices on baseball games are mainly based on the starting pitchers, which is why the first-five-inning prices are the same or close to the game prices.

Many professional bettors don’t trust bullpens and play the first five innings — plus the results come quicker. Note that rules for the first five innings stipulate the starters must “go” (start the game) and the game has to go at least five innings for action.

Vinny, what other states are looking at sports betting? Do you think it will ever happen in New York? Also, do you think any Las Vegas operators will expand east? — Dominick in Brooklyn

Vinny: Iowa recently had a bill pass in its house and senate. It has gone to Gov. Kim Reynolds’ office and awaits her signature. Like you and many other people, I hope New York offers it sometime in the near future. New Jersey and Pennsylvania have enjoyed successful launches, while Connecticut is considering it.

In my opinion, with neighboring states offering sports wagering, New York eventually will get in the game, too. Other states have proposed bills in legislation.

As for Las Vegas operators coming east, it has, in essence, happened with companies such as MGM, Caesars and William Hill. That said, others including Gaughan Gaming/South Point are exploring opportunities across the country. In fact, we have partnered with the Buffalo Thunder Resort’s new Race and Sports Book in Santa Fe, N.M. The response has been excellent. Keep tuned to VSiN and The Post!
