What was supposed to be a historic weekend at Yankee Stadium sputtered out, even if the Yankees moved their magic number in the American League East to two games. Aaron Judge came close to tying Roger Maris’ team and American League record of 61 home runs, but ultimately came up short.

Judge and the Yankees now head to Toronto for a three-game set with the Blue Jays. One win for the Pinstripes and they’ll clinch the AL East title. Oddsmakers have installed the Jays as a slight -116 favorite over the Yanks on Monday night. Judge is sitting at +215 to go deep.

Lost in all the Judge Hoopla is the fact that the Yankees have found their form after a worrying 10-18 stretch through August. The Bronx Bombers are 15-4 in their last 19 games and have won seven games on the spin. The Yankees are +500 to win the World Series at FanDuel

Yankees vs. Blue Jays prediction

Luis Severino will get the assignment for the potential division clincher on Monday night. It is Severino’s second start since going on the injured list back on July 13. In his first outing back from the IL, the 28-year-old allowed one run on two hits and a walk through five innings. Severino struck out six of the 18 batters he faced, threw 47 of his 64 pitches for strikes and averaged 97.2 MPH on his four-seam fastball.

Severino will face a much stiffer test on Monday night. The Toronto Blue Jays rank third in the MLB in wRC+, wOBA and second in OPS against right-handed pitching this season.

Kevin Gausman will start for the Blue Jays, looking to build on a pearler his last time out. Gausman allowed eight hits, two walks and struck out eight across six scoreless frames against the Phillies on Sept. 21, halting a rocky run of form in which he allowed five earned runs in back-to-back starts.

Despite that blip, Gausman’s season-long numbers still sparkle. The veteran right-hander owns a 3.32 ERA and 1.24 WHIP on the season despite having some pretty unfortunate luck. Gausman’s .364 BABIP is easily the highest in the MLB (Jose Berrios is second at .326) among qualified pitchers.

With Gausman due for some positive regression and Severino working his way back from a lengthy layoff, this looks like a good spot to fade the Yankees despite the fact that they can wrap up the division with a win in Toronto on Monday night.

The Bet: Blue Jays -116
