World-class players have traditionally been secretive. The great champions of the past kept their inner thoughts to themselves and none has been known to even keep a diary.

Yet, in recent years, dozens of GMs have taken to the blogosphere to reveal everything from what opening surprises they pulled off in their last events to what they had for dinner yesterday.

Call up Michael Adams’ blog, for example, and you find out that the English GM played in his first US tournament in 14 years, the recent Chicago Open, because he wanted to be in the States to take advantage of his condo in the Florida Keys.

Magnus Carlsen, the world’s No. 1-rated player, gives a round-by-round account of his most recent tourney on a blog sponsored by a Norwegian firm, Arctic Securities. Vinay Bhat’s blog, titled, An Unemployed Fellow, describes what it’s like to be one of America’s newest GMs.

Over at Hikaru Nakamura’s site, the former US Champion explains why he’s moved to St. Louis, a new center of American chess. And Israeli GM Emil Sutovsky, writing in Russian, discusses chess news, current events, philosophy and poetry — including his own.
