THE FREAKS, SO CHIC
Byline: Libby Callaway & Megan Turner
Does beer taste better in the company of Koko the Killer Clown, The Illustrated Man and Serpentina?
No. But the Buds at Coney Island’s Freak Bar are nicely chilled, and will take your mind off the state of your stomach after four ill-conceived whirls on the Cyclone, three Nathan’s hot dogs and a funnel cake.
If the cheap beer ($3) is not distracting enough, there’s plenty of neck-swiveling action, as the bar attached to Sideshows by the Seashore is the hangout of choice for the show’s freaky performers.
Watching the Amazing Blazing Tyler Fyre, the Twisted Shockmeister and Combustible Kiva swallowing razor blades, swords, live crickets and lit cigarettes will make you feel pretty good about that funnel cake.
Freak Bar, corner of Surf Avenue and West 12th Street, Brooklyn ([718] 372-5159)
