HEARTBROKEN Trekkies grappling with withdrawal pains after tonight’s last-ever episode of “Star Trek: Voyager” can take comfort: yet another Trek spinoff is on the way next fall.

And if the new series is not far away – neither is the idea behind it.

The new show – called “Enterprise” – is a prequel to the original “Star Trek” series, set a century before Capt. Kirk and Mr. Spock. Intergalactic space travel is just beginning. “It takes place in the 22nd Century, 100 years from now,” said UPN entertainment chief Tom Noonan.

“The controls inside the ship look like the kind of controls we’ve seen on videos from inside the Space Shuttle and the new space-station.” Noonan said. “The uniforms look like the NASA uniforms that we’re more familiar with.”

“Enterprise” will star Golden Globe winner Scott Bakula (best known for playing the time-traveling scientist, Dr. Sam Beckett on NBC’s sci-fi series “Quantum Leap”), as Capt. Jonathan Archer – a rule-bending, space cowboy.

And Archer’s spaceship is more likely to resemble a frontier-busting, bucket of bolts than the futuristic “Love Boat” lookalikes commanded by the likes of famous former Trek captains Kirk, Picard, Sisco and Janeway.
