JUST in time for spring training, the destruction of that infamous baseball that might have kept the Cubs out of the World Series is turning into a TV event.
Weird as it may sound, the “Today” show – Katie, Al, the whole gang – will originate from Chicago later this month just to cover the – well – festivities surrounding what Cubs fans are calling “the end of the curse.”
What’s the fuss over?
The annihilation of the ball (circled) that die-hard Cubs fan Steve Bartman deflected away from left fielder Moses Alou’s glove, depriving the team of an out and – ultimately – keeping the team out of last year’s World Series .
Harry Caray’s Restaurant, the eatery begun by the late Cubs’ announcer, bought the ball for $113,824 in an auction and promised to destroy it spectacularly in hopes of exorcising a so-called “Billy Goat Curse” (don’t ask) that has kept the team from winning a World Series since 1908.
The restaurant has asked Bartman to help with its destruction.
