Motorola intends to invade the iPad market.

The cellphone company is teaming up with Verizon FiOS to create a digital tablet that will let users watch TV on it, reports FT.com.

The tablet, due as early as this fall, is expected to have a 10-inch screen and operate with Google’s Android software.

Hooking up with FiOS — which has a 25 percent share of the US TV market — and integrating TV into the tablet will give the Motorola device an edge over Apple’s iPad and similar gadgets in the works at Microsoft, Google and BlackBerry-makers Research in Motion.

As an added bonus, the Motorola tablet is expected to be thinner and lighter than the iPad.
