ADULTS matching smarts with children is, all of a sudden, a program category.

A week after CBS announced it was producing an adult-vs.-kiddie quiz game in which grownups will take on child geniuses to win $1 million, Fox yesterday said it is developing “Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?” – where ordinary adults will be pitted against five average fifth graders.

All questions will come from fifth-grade – or younger – textbooks.

Contestants start out with $100,000 but will then have to gamble the money by answering general knowledge questions from the textbook.

Subjects will range from first grade art to fifth grade math.

In the end, contestants can go home with $1 million.

The kids won’t be competing for cash but will be available for use as lifelines and comic relief, officials said.

Game shows are pouring onto prime time TV again after years of being out of fashion.
