LAST week we sent Jason, a 23-year-old sales executive, and Elizabeth, a 23-yearold publicist, to a new Lower
East Side bistro called Light. We knew the food and service would be great, but the burning question was
whether or not there were any sparks! Read on to find out all the details.
He said:
I was about 10 minutes late getting to Light, but luckily Elizabeth had just walked in. Elizabeth’s picture really
didn’t do her justice. I noticed her red hair and blue eyes right away. Although, come to think of it, I can’t actually remember whether they were very bright green or bright blue.
I do remember that they were very bright and beautiful, though.
I was really relieved, to be honest – you never know what is going to happen on a blind date. After we had talked for only about 30 seconds, I had made up my mind that she was a really nice, sweet person. She mentioned that she
was happy “not to get someone sarcastic” so I was like, that was lucky! Usually I am more like that. But Elizabeth was so nice that I didn’t want to joke around with her in that way, or make her uncomfortable.
She is from Virginia and she has been here for a year, and I thought, maybe she wasn’t used to cynical New
Englanders.
But also, it’s part of the strange thing about dating, right? Her personality – which is very polite and charming – made me want to be polite and charming as well.
After dinner, I walked her toward the subway, and we got a train home together. I think the chemistry thing is
still up in the air. We were both being quite reserved, so I don’t really know.
But we did really get on well, and we have agreed to go to the movies some time this week, so we’ll see what happens.
I had a really good time.

I arrived at Light before Jason did, so I had a few minutes just to sit there and check out the place. It definitely struck
me as a cool date spot. When Jason walked in he was carrying a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a huge smile, which immediately set me at ease. I thought it was very gentlemanly of him to bring flowers for me.
I was definitely pleasantly surprised when I first saw him – he is tall, very cute and a great dresser.
I think we were both pretty nervous at first, but we quickly fell into easy and enjoyable conversation.
I felt very comfortable talking with Jason. He projects a laidback, fun attitude. He is extremely personable and
self-assured, so I can see why he is so successful in sales.
Compared to the rest of my past blind-date experiences, this one far exceeded my expectations.
A measure of a good first date for me is the amount of laughter, and we certainly did a lot of laughing. We cracked up almost the entire time, and I think we both had a great time together on the date. I would definitely like to see
Jason again.
