Major ‘Monk’ finale
USA’s “Monk” went out with a bang Friday night.
The show’s finale snared 9.4 million viewers, a new viewership record for a basic-cable drama series.
That was nearly 40 percent better than “Monk” had ever done before in its eight seasons featuring Tony Shalhoub as the OCD-wracked detective.
Last Friday’s series finale shattered the basic-cable viewership record set by TNT’s “The Closer,” which averaged 9.2 million viewers for its season finale in Sept. 2007.
Several pay-cable dramas have drawn bigger numbers, including “The Sopranos,” which averaged nearly 13.5 million viewers for its Season 4 opener in Sept. 2002.
