The guy who created NBC’s famous “Must-See TV” slogan is taking himself off the network schedule.
NBC marketing guru John Miller will announce his retirement this week, according to Variety.
It was Miller and his crew who, back in 1993, created the “Must-See TV” catchphrase to hype NBC’s vaunted Thursday-night lineup (“Seinfeld,” “Mad About You” and “ER” — “Friends” joined a season later).
“We stayed with it for a long period of time, until we really weren’t so much ‘Must-See’ anymore,” Miller says.
“And then we felt we needed to make a change.”
Miller is also responsible for the now-customary practice of shrinking a show’s end credits to run an extra scene.
