Sigourney Weaver and her new miniseries “Political Animals” lost at the polls in their first night out.

The six-part miniseries — based heavily on Hillary Clinton’s political resurrection after losing her run for the White House in 2008 — brought in 2.6 million viewers.

The heavily promoted series needed to draw 4 million or more to be classified as a genuine hit.

Any promise of the show becoming a full-time series probably was dashed by the unexpectedly low turnout.

The show has been in the works since last January, and the casting of a movie star like Weaver — who’d never made a TV series — seemed to promise a big hit for the USA cable network.

Reviews of the series were at best mixed, which may have scared off viewers.
